Sustainable Polymer Engineering Research

Join us for cutting edge research in sustainable materials sponsored by The National Science Foundation! Teachers will work in pairs with faculty and student researchers in The Polymer Science Research Center in efforts focused on addressing 21st century grand challenges in engineering, including:

  • alternative energy
  • green polymer chemistry
  • renewable feedstocks
  • water quality
  • repurposing/recycling/reusing materials

Requirements:

  • Engage in six weeks of laboratory research (June 1 – July 31)
  • Develop classroom activities/laboratory experiments/curriculum based on summer research
  • Implement activities with a graduate student each semester
  • Increase student awareness of current sustainability issues 
  • Publish developed activities in “Teach Engineering”
  • Present at regional and national conferences
  • Attend program overview session

 

Benefits:

  • $6500 summer stipend
  • $1000 for travel to regional or national conferences
